After 21-years of the award, Fort Wayne finally has an Indianapolis Star Mr. Football they can call their own.

It was announced on Thursday that Bishop Luers’ Senior Jaylon Smith is the recipient of the 2012 Mr. Football award. Smith rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns in the 40-28 Class 2A State championship victory over Cardinal Ritter, and was a prominent member on the team’s defense as a linebacker.

Smith finished the vote for the award with 34 votes overall, with Warren Central’s Tim Kimbrough (11) finishing runner-up and Mishawaka’s Sam Schrader (5) coming respectively in third.
