Firefighters battle second large neighborhood fire in three weeks

Firefighters from Avon and Plainfield in Hendricks County and Wayne Township in Indianapolis battled a house fire that threatened two other homes.

According to fire officials on scene, a fire began inside a home in the 1600 block of Fortner Drive, near US 40 and Rockville Road, before 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

When firefighters arrived, they could see flames shooting from the roof threatening two neighboring homes.

Firefighters told Fox59 they believe the home was not occupied and that it is a total loss.

The residents of the two neighboring homes evacuated safely. One home suffered minor damage while fire burned through the wall of a second.

The residents of the home that caught fire were not home at the time.

Fox59 has also learned this is the second ‘total loss’ fire in this neighborhood in the past three weeks.

No injuries have been reported.
