Rise of the Guardians is the new 3D animated children’s film from Dreamworks Animation. The movie is based on the book series “The Guardians of Childhood” by William Joyce. A-list actors such as Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law lend their voices to the film’s characters.
The story revolves around Jack Frost (Pine), a boy who has been given the special power to make it winter wherever he goes. Even though Jack has the ability to bring lots of joy to everyone, he gets no recognition for it and can’t seem to find his place in the world. All that changes when Pitch (Law), the Nightmare King, makes an attempt to cover the world in darkness by stealing all the children’s dreams and turning them into nightmares. The Guardians, made up of Santa Claus (Baldwin), the Easter Bunny (Jackman), the Tooth Fairy (Fisher), and the Sandman enlist Jack Frost’s help to fight against Pitch and protect the children of the world. It’s a race against the clock to stop Pitch before all of the children stop believing in our heroes causing them to lose their magical powers.
Generally speaking, animated films aren’t necessarily my cup of tea. My son is only 1 and a half so I haven’t fully made the transition to the cartoon world just yet. That said, there are exceptions, and Rise of the Guardians is definitely one of those exceptions. It is such a fun and enjoyable movie that is full of wonder and is excellent for the entire family. I think parents will enjoy this movie just as much as the kids. The animation is beautiful and this is one of the few movies where I’d say it’s worth the extra money to see it in 3D. Rise of the Guardians has a great sense of humor along with a big heart and is truly a must-see this holiday season.
Rise of the Guardians open Wednesday, November 21.
