An IMPD officer injured in the line of duty will be home for the holidays.

Officer Santos Cortez was released from the hospital Wednesday.

Cortez was hurt in a car crash in June as he was chasing down a suspected drunken driver.

The suspect, Jerrel Watkins, reportedly had a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit when he smashed into Cortez’s squad car.

Public Safety Director Troy Riggs told Fox59 that whenever Cortez is ready to return to work, there will be a job at IMPD for him.
