Lafayette man accused of molesting toddler

A Lafayette man has been arrested after police said he admitted to inappropriately touching a toddler on several occasions.

Adam Jenkins, 23, faces six felony charges including child molestation, neglect of a dependent and battery. Police said he repeatedly sexually abused a 20-month-old girl left in his care.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the child was taken to the emergency room earlier this month. Officials said she suffered bleeding, bruising and swelling. The toddler also had scratches on her face and burns on her hand, police said.

Jenkins initially claimed the injuries were caused by constipation and a harsh spanking.  When confronted by police, he admitted he had touched her previously “but did not think he hurt her as there was no blood or swelling on those occasions.”

Jenkins is being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail.
