INDIANAPOLIS — Early morning heavy rainfall caused Indianapolis-area roadways to become waterlogged Friday morning.

Specifically, Metro Police blocked the northbound lanes of Keystone Avenue near Kessler Boulevard. Multiple cars were reported stalled by foot-high water.

Indianapolis Fire water rescue teams were dispatched to the area but were not needed.

Other areas of concern were:

  • Areas of Keystone Ave between 71st and Kessler Blvd
  • 46th & Meridian St
  • I-74 & Southeastern Ave
  • Raymond and Harding
  • In Boone County, the Sheriff’s Office was reporting high water throughout the county.

The heaviest of the rain is expected to push through Central Indiana within the next hour, however clogged storm sewers may slow water leaving the roadway.

The Indianapolis Department of Public Works asks residents to clear storm sewers of debris or packed snow to prevent roadways from flooding.
