Police: Gibson Co. man fatally shoots ex-girlfriend’s father
GIBSON COUNTY – Police say a Francisco man planned to attack his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend—but ended up killing the girl’s father instead.
On Wednesday night, officers arrived at 7816 C.R. 45 East in Fort Branch after receiving a 911 call about a shooting. According to investigators, 23-year-old Austin Blaize had a vendetta against his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend.
Police said he went to her house Wednesday night, entering through the garage. When he saw the girl’s boyfriend, he pulled a handgun and tried to fire the weapon. It didn’t go off. An argument followed and as Blaize tried to get out of the house, police said he fired several shots.
One of those hit the ex-girlfriend’s father, 47-year-old Terry Monier. The boyfriend ran out of the home. So did Blaize.
Monier died from his wounds after being taken to Deaconess Hospital.
Police found Blaize at his grandmother’s home in Francisco. They arrested him without incident on a murder charge, taking him to the Gibson County Jail.
