For the first time in Cody Zeller’s college career he didn’t score a field goal but that didn’t stop the Hoosiers from crushing Penn State 72-49. Zeller scored only 2 points in the game off a pair of free throws in the first half.
“Cody did a couple other things to impact the game and that’s why he is such a great player. He might have a slow night today but still play tremendous defense, he still had ten deflections,” said Victor Oladipo who finished with 19 points.
Zeller blocked 3 shots in the game and grabbed 8 rebounds. All around the defensive effort is one of the reasons the Hoosiers were able to control the game. They limited Penn State to 33% shooting from the field and held them under 50 points.
“72 is a pretty good night, that’s way under where we would be. But, thats a pretty good night in the Big Ten. We’re not trying to play that way but sometimes you’ve got to deal with what the game brings and I think that these guys are really understanding that they’ll go as far as their defense and rebounding takes them,” said Crean.
The Hoosiers also pulled away with a barrage of 3-pointers hitting 11 total in the game. Off the bench Will Sheehey was the main contributor, going a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Indiana improves to 17-2 overall, 5-1 in the Big Ten. Next up for the Hoosiers is a home game against Michigan State on Sunday at Assembly Hall.
