MUNCIE – A Muncie mother stopped for speeding had two kids in her car and had been drinking, police say.

State police stopped Melissa Lyght, 29, after clocking her going 96 mph in a 55 mph zone on State Road 67 near Cowan Road on Monday afternoon. Inside Lyght’s Chevrolet Trail Blazer were her 3-year-old son and 6-month-old daughter.

State police said Lyght was intoxicated and tested at more than twice the legal limit.

Charges against her include operating while intoxicated with a passenger less than 18 years of age, a class D felony, and two counts of neglect of a dependent, a class D felony.

Police took her to the Delaware County Jail. The children were released to a relative.
