Greenwood fondue restaurant cites financial difficulties in closing

GREENWOOD – A Greenwood restaurant has closed, citing economic issues as the reason.

The Melting Pot of Greenwood made the announcement Monday. The fondue restaurant located at 1269 N. State Road 135 originally opened in September 2006. About 25 employees have been notified of the closure. They have been offered relocation opportunities at the Indianapolis location, management said.

“We sincerely regret the impact this has had on our guests and our family of team members,” a company spokesperson said in a statement emailed to Fox59. “There are no plans to re-open the restaurant or open a new Melting Pot restaurant in Greenwood at this time.”

The statement continued, “We are grateful for the opportunity to serve this community for the past six years at this location.”

The Melting Pot’s Indianapolis location is at 5650 E. 86th St.

How sad. Been going there for years. Knew the staff and enjoyed the food. I will not go to the Indy location because of the drive and have never enjoyed the people there. Guess we will have to visit the Gatlinburg Tenn. store when were there.

It was in a bad location. If they would relocate to US 31 they would make it!

My husband tried twice last month to go and couldn't get in (wait list and tables not available until late), so this is a total surprise. I will greatly miss this place. We don't go to the northside location. It was always a terrible wait and they weren't very friendly when we would call.

What a disappointment. We made our annual attendance for Valentine's Day and/or Anniversary. Great staff and always great food! I also will not travel to the northside due to distance, location and the staff. We will miss you guys!
