Damages to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church have climbed to $400,000. Most of the damages are smoke-related.

Detectives believe someone set fire to the sanctuary of the 175-year-old church early Wednesday morning.

Officials said there weren’t any signs of forced entry and nothing was taken from the church.

The church will reopen Thursday for regular weekday confessions at 11:15 a.m. and regular weekday mass at 12:10 p.m.
