Man injured after fire on the north side

INDIANAPOLIS – Investigators say a man who was found at the scene of a fire lived by himself.

The fire broke out around 4 p.m., when dispatchers received their first 911 calls. Crews arrived to find flames shooting through the roof.

They found the man inside the home. He was covered in debris and unresponsive. According to investigators, the victim is in his 60s or 70s. Neighbors said he lived alone and had a medical condition that may have limited his mobility.

The man went to an area hospital with serious injuries, including smoke inhalation and burns. He’s listed in critical condition.

As of about 5 p.m. Wednesday, crews had the fire contained. They were still dealing with a significant amount of smoke.
