Hoosier to play key role as conclave gets ready to pick new pope

Tony Hollowell was an altar boy at Nativity Catholic Church in Wanamaker, played football at Roncalli High School, graduated from Notre Dame and Tuesday morning he will play a pivotal role in the pre-conclave mass attended by cardinals from all over the world as the Catholic Church meets to select its new leader.

“His job will be to proclaim the word of God from the book of Isaiah,” said Joseph Hollowell, his father and the president of Roncalli High School. “To do it well and to do it in feeling and do it in English, so, he’s excited about it and hopes to do it well, I know that.”

Hollowell is a seminarian–a priest in training–at the Vatican and expects to be ordained in 2016.

Two weeks ago, as the church began planning for the conclave to pick the new pope, Hollowell was informed he would perform the first reading during Mass.

“It seems like it’s a very fitting reading for the picking of the next leader of the church,” said his father. “It is the beginning of a mission. The same reading that Jesus used that started his public ministry and it does seem it’s very fitting for the beginning of the conclave to reflect on that.”

“The spirit of the Lord has been given me for the Lord has anointed me,” reads Isaiah chapter 61.

“You will be named priests of the Lord, they will call you ministers of our God,” the chapter continues. “All who see them will admit that they are a race whom the Lord has blessed.”

Hollowell said his son was speechless when asked to explain how he was chosen for this pivotal role.

“There was a lot of almost incredulous response… that he was having a hard time fathoming why he may have been chosen.

“He has done some public speaking before in front of large crowds,” Hollowell said. “Certainly nothing of the magnitude that this is destined to be and be televised around the world.”

The Mass begins at 5 a.m., Indianapolis time, Tuesday and can be viewed on EWTN, the Catholic Church’s cable network.

He's just a seminarian, so he doesn't pick anything. As his brother, I share your desire that he perform God's work. As a person, I am disappointed that you would choose an article about something nice to vent your frustrations about the Church. Surely there are better forums for that kind of talk?

Dan, I can only imagine how proud you and your family are for your brother's role in the Mass!! Please don't let the rantings of a lunatic upset. Your brother is fine young man who has a bright future ahead. Love & Prayers to your family!!

ALTHOUGH YOU DISAGREE WITH SLAYER'S VIEW/COMMENT HE/SHE STILL HAS AS MUCH RIGHT TO COMMENT HERE AS WITH ALL OF US. INAPPROPRIATE? NOW THAT'S YOUR VIEW/COMMENT.

"WISH FOX59 WOULD REMOVE AARON C'S COMMENT. IT'S INAPPROPRIATE."
SEE HOW THAT LOOKS TO YOU? SEE MY POINT?
I GAVE YOU AARON, A THUMBS DOWN.

Congratulations to a wonderful family, a devoted seminarian and to our Archdiocese. We are represented well in Rome. God Bless You Tony – A GSP parishioner that loved having you around for Easter.

The next Pope will come from Rome. He will also be the last Pope and He will also be THE Anti-Christ. Once settled into his throne, He will announce to the world that He is GOD! For those of you that think Barry Soetoro AKA Barack Obama is the Anti-Christ, you are wrong. Well, part wrong…He "IS" Anti-Christ but not, "THE" Anti-Christ. Confusing? I hope not. All of Mankind needs to get their "house in order"!

I Know Christ is coming sooner than some of you may think and some of you think He will never come back to earth. WRONG! He will and He is, returning. NO ONE KNOWS THE DAY OR HOUR of His return but He will come back. [Several] "things" have to play out FIRST, before this will happen. That is NOT to say that GOD won't take some of US out before Jesus comes back, I'm merely stating that Most of US will, still be alive on earth when He does finally comes back.

He will then, raise the dead who Was in Christ, (followed Him) first, then He will gather His living flock on earth "Who is in Christ" and then, take them into the Kingdom. After that, ALL "HELL" breaks loose and You will NOT, want to be here (left behind) when this happens, especially when your loved ones suddenly "disappear". So, in short, If you haven't received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, I would highly recommend you do so and you HAVE to be born again. (Baptized in the Holy Spirit) And you must repent of your sins and turn away from them.

It is NOT easy, picking up the Cross with today's society the way it is but If you really and truly cry out to GOD, He will lighten your load. He wants to have a personal relationship with and is waiting for you now. Have faith in The LORD. Trust in Him and try your very best to live life the way you think He would approve of. You can find all that in the Ten Commandments and The Holy Bible.

Jesus has really "helped" me turn my life around. Believe it, I did most of the work, He was and is my instructor, my coach and my mentor. Please pray for his strength and guidance to help you along the path to his door and you'll really be amazed at what He Can and Will do for YOU!

And now, I want to share just one more thing with all of you who reads these words. I wrote this back around July in 1991. (Boy does time fly by)!

"If ever, you meet me and forget me, you have lost nothing. If, you meet Jesus and forget Him, you'll loose everything"!

GO WITH GOD, cause Satan has no friends!

PS. Replies welcomed, even the negative ones. Just no hatred PLEASE.

As a student of half of the Hollowell family, Slayer2's comment is very inappropriate and very wrong. I am proud of all the Hollowell's that I know. Thank you Tony, and goodluck with your reading!

JOSH, YOU TOO, NEED TO READ THE REPLY I GAVE TO AARON C.
YOU KNOW IT'S FINE TO VOTE UP OR DOWN ON THESE COMMENTS BUT DON'T JUDGE BY WAY OF CONDEMNING SLAYER FOR FOX59 TO "TAKE HIM/HER OUT/REMOVING THE COMMENT."
THERE IS NO FOUL LANGUAGE IN THE COMMENT AT ALL, IT IS MERELY THE VIEW/COMMENT OF THAT PERSON. SO YOUR JUDGING THE COMMENT BASED ON YOUR VIEW'S.

DON'T BE SO CRUDE, IGNORANT AND ONE SIDED.

THUMBS DOWN FOR YOU AS WELL!

    @ FAIR

I think what everyone is trying to say, is that they know Tony Hollowell and the entire Hollowell family very well — and that to include him among 'child molesters' is stereotypical slander. I understand their viewpoint, because I grew up around the Hollowells myself. I agree that Slayer2's comment is inappropriate, especially in this particular case, and should be removed.

      Sophia,

I 'think' Slayer2 is just expressing his feelings on which is, a very delicate and sensitive matter to masses of people and to which no one can deny. I also don't believe He was attacking "The Hollowell Family" as you clearly pointed out in your comment. I can't say for sure since I don't know him. Only He know's his motive for His comment. Never the less, He still has a right to His comment whether it's negative or positive, right or wrong.
This is an open forum for 'all' people to comment on. Fox59 does not say that only positive and/or right comments be posted here. That is why I am replying to you folks who are obviously angry with Slayer2 and who truly are not looking beyond this controversial statement He made. Also along the same issue here, I noticed that Mr. Stratton's first paragraph in His comment, in my opinion, would be a controversial claim to most people and He is getting thumbs down on what he posted as a result of it. He has obviously hit a sour note with a few people. Again, in my own opinion, He is expressing himself with what appears to be a very 'heartfelt and concerning for others' comment. He too, has the right to express himself here.
As I recall, there is a passage in the Bible that does refer to this 'next' Pope as being the 'last' Pope on earth!

A Benedictine named Arnold Wion first published the prophecies in 1595.
Of the final Pope the prophecy says:
In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will sit Peter the Roman, who will pasture His sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills [Rome] will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The End.

Malachy's prophecy names Benedict XVI as the 111th and next to the last Pope.
His prophecy ends with the 112th Pope which will come from ROME!

OK, That's all from me and I too, expect thumbs down and probably negative replies. Have at it.
      God Bless people.
      Fair
