New Fishers hospital reflects needs of Hamilton County growth
FISHERS– Weeks away from its public opening, Fox 59 News received its first look Wednesday at the new St. Vincent Fishers Hospital.
St. Vincent Health said the 110,000-square foot expansion created a hospital focused on wellness, women’s health and family health. The 50-bed inpatient facility opens April 8 with 30 medical/surgical beds and 10 labor/delivery rooms.
The hospital not only reflects the needs of a growing community, but of where the community is headed as well, said Fishers Town Council President John Weingardt.
“When I first moved here I think we were about 8,000 people and now we’re 80,000 people and continually growing,” he said. “Growing in the right way.”
Weingardt told Fox 59 News that between the new St. Vincent Fishers Hospital and the existing IU Health facility right nearby, the northeast corner of Fishers represents an opportunity to bring more jobs to the area by developing what he dubbed a “Med-Tech Corridor.”
“It’s the northeast end of Fishers and it’s a very undeveloped area right now, but we have one hospital already there and St. Vincent’s will be another hospital there,” he said. “Kinda two real pillars of the community.”
St. Vincent Fishers Hospital also has a pending application for the environmentally friendly LEEDs certification.
