Original story:

INDIANAPOLIS – A Lincoln Middle School instructional assistant was arrested this morning on preliminary charges of child molesting.

The Indianapolis Metro Police Department arrested 27-year-old John White.

A mother contacted police Sunday, saying her 13-year-old told her he had been sexually abused multiple times. Detectives said the mother told officers the teenager was “tired of the abuse and decided to let someone know.” It did not happen on school property.

“A 13-year-old child confided in his mother about some things that had been going on that the allegations that this person had been sexually abusing him,” said Officer Michael Hewitt of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

White was a part-time employee at Lincoln Middle School in the MSD of Pike Township. Detectives believe the sexual abuse happened at White’s home off Augusta Meadows Drive.

Detectives said the teenager was sleeping over at White’s home on Sunday, April 14. The young boy was in White’s room, on the floor, and charging his cell phone. The IMPD report stated the victim “said Mr. White approached him and began slapping him on the buttocks.” The victim then “stated that Mr. White then pulled down his pants and performed oral sex on him,” the report said.

White told detectives the teenager had slept over at his home about 10 times. In the report White said “he purchased (redacted) an iPod and included his cell phone service on his payment plan.” White denied having any sexual contact with the teenager.

According to detectives, the boy’s mother contacted IMPD immediately after he spoke with her about the incident.

“We encourage anyone who (is) a victim of any crime to always come forward. In a situation like this, it speaks well of the relationship that this child has with the parent where they feel comfortable enough to confide in their parents about something that’s not right that’s happening to them,” Hewitt said.

The boy’s mother said White met her son at Snacks Elementary School. White was not an employee there. The teenager’s mother said White worked with special needs students and befriended her son. The teenager currently attends Lincoln Middle School, which is where White worked. White confirmed to officers he met the teenager at school and “was still employed as an instructional assistant at Lincoln Middle School.”

MSD of Pike Township Communication Officer, Sarah Dorsey, issued the following statement via email:

“The Metropolitan School District of Pike Township became aware of the disturbing allegations, and subsequent arrest of Mr. John White today upon receiving a fax from a reporter with the Indianapolis Star. Mr. White’s employment was immediately terminated, and an internal investigation was initiated. We are deeply saddened by these troubling accusations and are cooperating fully with authorities. As always, the physical, social, emotional, and mental wellbeing of our students is our primary concern”.

IMPD said White fostered two boys who are teenagers. The Department of Child Services was contacted, and the teens were taken from the home.
