Two people were injured after a fire broke out in a townhome at a west side apartment complex Monday afternoon.

Wayne Township firefighters responded to the 7800 block of Jennifer Drive, just off W. 10th Street west of Interstate 4658, after receiving a report of a small “explosion.”

When crews arrived, they saw smoke emanating from the apartment.  Firefighters were able to contain the fire a short time later.

Officials said two men were painting inside the townhome when the fumes sparked an explosion, blowing the doors off the townhouse. Fox59 was told the painters were using epoxy paint.  It is believed the gas was not turned off, igniting the explosion.

The painters sustained serious burns and were transported to Wishard Hospital.

Fox59 is headed to the scene and will bring you more information as it becomes available.
