Indiana offenders donate money to victims of sexual assault
Offenders are working to right some wrongs. They’ve worked to raise $15,500 for victims of sexual assault.
The money was presented to the Indiana Coalition Against Sexual Assault Wednesday.
The offenders held fundraisers at facilities across the state.
“The [Indiana Department of Corrections] really appreciates the partnership we have formed with INCASA and is grateful for the opportunity to help bring awareness to this important issue and to further services for victims of sexual violence in Indiana. Through these efforts, we can help crime victims begin to rebuild their lives.” said Commissioner Bruce Lemmon in a statement.
The donation is in observance of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
In addition to this donation, the IDOC is planting a memorial tree at each of its 26 adult and juvenile correctional facilities to honor victims of crime in Indiana during National Crime Victims’ Rights week, April 21-27, 2013.
