North side “sinkhole” to cost about $50K to repair

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– A giant pothole, initially deemed a sinkhole, that opened up on a north side street will be repaired, but at a cost of approximately $50,000.

Four cars were damaged because of the giant pothole that is located along River Road, near 96th Street and Keystone Avenue.

river road sinkhole 2Officials with the Indianapolis Department of Public Works said the hole was caused by erosion and made worse by recent rainfall.  The hole was about 2 feet wide and 5 feet deep.

Repairs on the hole are expected to be completed by May 7.
