An Indiana native was shot and killed when he tried to intervene in a robbery attempt overseas.

Kyle Bruner was working as a sailor on a ship docked in the Bahamas.

Police said he stepped in and helped a woman who was being mugged on the street by three men trying to steal her jewelry.   One of those men fired a shot, killing Bruner.

His aunt, who lives in Indianapolis, said it’s the kind of courageous thing her nephew would do.

“When he intervened in this mugging, that was something that you would expect him to do, he would never step back from anything,” said Penny Mitchell.

A memorial service in Indianapolis is being planned sometime in the near future.

Bahamian Police have two people in custody and are looking for a third.
