Fire burns vacant building on city’s south side

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis firefighters responded to a vacant building on the city’s south side early Friday morning.

Callers to 911 reported smoke and possible flames coming from the second floor around 12:40 a.m.

Firefighters blocked Shelby Street south of Raymond Avenue, near Garfield Park, while they extinguished the fire.

According to fire officials, no one occupied the building since 2011.

Indianapolis Code Enforcement Unsafe Buildings Division representatives are responding to evaluate structural stability.

No injuries were reported.
