UPDATED: Suspicious device investigated near Indianapolis Motor Speedway

UPDATED: Police say the suspicious item that was found in the Coke Lot was found to be a package of fireworks.

ORIGINAL: SPEEDWAY, IND. – Police and fire personnel evacuated an area near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway after reports of a suspicious item.

Speedway police Lt. Trent Theobald said emergency crews responded to the 4900 block of West 30th Street around 2 p.m. Saturday. That’s just north of the Coke Lot, west of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Coke Lot is primarily used for camping and parking on the nights before the race.
