It’s a good time to be an Indiana basketball fan. The Fever raised a championship banner Friday night, and on Saturday, the Pacers are throwing a big pre-game party before the Eastern Conference Finals against the Heat.
The Pacers “Saturday Night Special” party will begin at 5:30 p.m. outside Bankers Life Fieldhouse. There will be games for kids, live music, food and beer gardens on Pennsylvania Avenue and Georgia Street.
Though everyone wants to beat the Heat, organizers are also hoping to beat any rain or storms.
“We’re going to hold off as long as we can tomorrow and probably not make a decision until about 2 p.m. tomorrow,” said Greg Schenkel, Pacers VP for Fan and Community Relations. “We’re hoping, by that time, any threat of rain is gone and that we can enjoy the outside.”
“If the weather holds off it will be nice, but, rain or shine, I think people will still be down here,” said Myron Stubbs, who plans to attend.
The Pub on Georgia Street will take part in the outdoor festivities, but even if the weather doesn’t cooperate, they say the fans will certainly come.
“It’s been a phenomenal experience as far as the fans who actually stay in the bar now to watch the game who can’t get tickets,” said bar manager Carlos Harrington. “It’s been really great for business for everybody.”
On the night that the Fever raised a Championship banner, fans are now simply hoping the good times are contagious.
“Have that Fever, no pun intended, for the Pacers tomorrow,” said Dawana Stubbs, who attended Friday night’s game with her family.
“The winning spirit, hopefully, so the Pacers can pull it out tomorrow,” said Robert Stubbs.
