FISHERS, Ind.—The Fishers Police Department is investigating the death of a baby found at a licensed in-home daycare.

Thursday, officers responded to Home Away From Home daycare in the 13000 block of Hawkstone Drive at approximately 12:23 p.m. When they arrived, they reported the child was not breathing.

Authorities said efforts to revive the child were unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased at Community North Hospital.

“I know that the child was located in the basement of the home where part of the daycare was set up,” said Tom Weger, public information officer for the Fishers Police Department.

Weger said foul play is not suspected, and the cause of death remains under investigation.

According to a neighbor, the owners have been operating the daycare for at least 10 years in the neighborhood.

“I don’t know anything about this story. We haven’t heard much, but I do know they’re great neighbors. They’re great people and so we’ve loved having them as neighbors,” Clint Cushman said.

Cushman said he noticed officers at the home on Thursday.

“Our empathy and thoughts are with them. No one wants to lose a child. I just feel for them and the people who lost their child,” Cushman said.

Child Protective Services was contacted as part of the investigation.
