An investigation into the mysterious death of a local mother. What started as a camping trip with friends ends with her body being pulled from the White River.

It happened Wednesday near Freedom in Owen County. The hardest thing for the family right now is not knowing how she ended up in the water, and why nobody tried to save her.

“Her kids loved her dearly, they’re lost,” says Louann Kelley, the victim’s aunt. “They cried and cried and cried and cried. They don’t understand, they’re asking questions, we have no answers to give them.”

Police say a group of fishermen found Jessica Thacker’s body in the White River in Owen County earlier this week. Jessica’s aunt, Louann, says the family last heard from the 27-year-old a week ago when Jessica told her mother she was out camping with friends.

“We didn’t think anything about filing a police missing person’s report or anything of that nature.  She was out camping with some friends and everything seemed fine,” Kelley says.

Investigators are trying to figure out what happened after that call. The family says Jessica was not a strong swimmer and would never swim alone. Louann is shocked nobody tried to help.

“If she fell in, why didn’t someone help her? What didn’t someone call 911 if they were afraid to jump in and help?”

They are questions this family wants answered. Not just for them, but for Jessica’s children.

“It’s sad. Sad there’s a whole 5 babies without their mommy right now. Someone needs to step up,” says Kelley.

The family says somebody must know something. They are asking that if you have any information about this incident, to please call the Owen County Sheriff’s Office.
