Zoo employee hospitalized following indirect lightning strike

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis Zoo employee is recovering from injuries due to a lightning strike.

Indiana State Capitol Police responded to the Zoo around 3:30 p.m. after a security guard was indirectly struck by lightning behind the administration building.

According to zoo officials, medics transported the security guard to Wishard Hospital.

Initial reports indicated the worker suffered no burns and he was awake after the incident.

The worker was admitted to Wishard for observation overnight.

No zoo guests were injured during the incident.
