Three firefighters injured battling east side house fire

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Three firefighters sustained minor injuries while battling a fire on the city’s east side Thursday afternoon.

Crews with the Indianapolis Fire Department were dispatched to a two-home in the 2500 block of Southeastern Avenue just before 12:30 p.m. When they arrived, heavy smoke was emanating from the structure.

Officials said the firefighters were only slightly injured. However, one was transported to an area hospital.

Neighbors said the house was recently vacated. Damage is estimated at $40,000.
