Brownsburg officials approved an annexation proposal Thursday.

The measure is a 4,500 acre annexation. It means an additional 3,000 citizens for Brownsburg.

Brownsburg has seen a surge in population over the last several years. In 1990, the town had just 7,628 residents. That jumped to 21,285 residents in 2010.

While many residents have welcomed the proposal, not everyone is on board.

“The farm that they’re proposing to annex has been in my family since 1833 and we have children coming up who want to continue,” said Donna Garner Menchhofer in a previous interview.

Several Brownsburg residents spoke for and against it at the meeting Thursday.
