Fox59 News has obtained surveillance video that shows the intensity of the tornado that tore through Miami County.
A local gas station gave us the video that shows the 95 mile per hour winds tearing through the community of Peru Wednesday afternoon. The wind was seen cascading through, power flashes from exploding transformers and flying debris is also seen. In the end, western and southern portions of Peru were ruined.
“When it all happened, my boy was in there (the store) working. He’s on the phone to me and he said, ‘Dad we just lost the roof, Dad the canopy just went airborne.'”
John Hann, owner of BK root beer, couldn’t believe what he would see when he showed up minutes later. The drive-in ordering area was left twisted. He said it’s been here for 50 years. Hann isn’t giving up, though.
“I wanna rebuild, this place has been here since 1950 and I don’t want to lose it,” said Hann.
As the storm came through, it tore up other parts the community. A neighborhood off West Main and Foster was heavily damaged. Roofs were blown off homes and trees were down everywhere.
Fox59 News spoke to the family of a woman in her mid 70s, who was tossed around in her van by the tornado. They said she is doing okay, other than being in a lot of pain.
