Indianapolis – When the Summer Celebration is going on in downtown Indy, you know exactly why people are here.

To have a good time, to see the concerts, listen to music,” says Erika Vance.

Tina Hill-Woods comes for the big name performers.

“Ojays, Midnight Star, ready to party.”

The Summer Celebration is always a huge event that spans two weekends. Ahead of this, FOX 59 told you about an elaborate plan to protect you in case anything should happen. Police officers, in groups that are dozens strong, are everywhere.

We’re going to have officers mid block, we’re going to have them on the corners. We want them to reach out to everyone walking,” says Gary Coons with the Indianapolis Homeland Security office.

Members of faith based group “The Ten Point Coalition are joining law enforcement. They are wearing bright yellow vests to stand out in the crowds, and stand up for safety and protection. Hidden cameras are also running. Gun violence rocked the Fourth of July festivities near Circle Center Mall. Police say 16 year old Monquize Edwards died after he was shot. Police arrested Eron Bonner in that case. Thats is one example of why everyone wants to be ready, not because they think something like that will happen, but just in case.

“Because of all the stuff that’s been going on, we need extra security, we need that,” says Tina Hill-Woods.
