Man fatally shot during home invasion on southeast side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indianapolis Metropolitan police say a man was shot and killed Wednesday morning following an attempted home invasion on the southeast side.

Officers responded around 2:40 a.m. to the 4200 block of E. Naomi Street on a report of multiple shots. When they arrived to the scene, they discovered a vehicle parked in the middle of the street with no occupants inside.

Police located a deceased individual, later identified as 31-year-old Joshua Renick, in the area. Police said Renick had broken into a nearby home and was shot by the homeowner.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
