Father arrested in connection with 1-year-old daughter’s death
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—A local father was arrested after his 1-year-old daughter was found unresponsive in an east side home last week.
Wayne Bradshaw, 25, appeared in court Wednesday for his initial hearing on charges of murder, battery and neglect of a dependent.
Bradshaw was arrested on July 26 after he called 911 to report his daughter was not breathing. When officers arrived to the house in the 2300 block of N. Rural Avenue, they located the unresponsive 1-year-old girl and transported her to Methodist Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
According to court documents, Bradshaw told authorities he was giving his daughter a bath, but left her alone for a couple of minutes while he attended to his two other children. Bradshaw stated he returned a couple of minutes later to find his daughter partially under water. The suspect stated he attempted CPR before calling 911.
An autopsy of the infant revealed she died from homicidal violence due to blunt force trauma. Doctors said the girl suffered numerous injuries, including multiple contusions to her head and body and a burn on her right leg. Additionally, court documents revealed there was hemorrhaging on the girl’s lungs, kidneys and liver.
During an interview with investigators, Bradshaw told investigators his daughter’s mother dropped the girl off at his home on July 19. According to the probable cause affidavit, he stated he “lost it” after the girl soiled her diaper, so he “yanked the victim up by her arm” and “squeezed the child around the torso”.
Bradshaw’s mother told police she received a call from Bradshaw two days prior to his arrest. She said Bradshaw asked her to come over because “he was stressing out and couldn’t handle taking care of the kids anymore,” read court documents.
Bradshaw is currently in the Marion County Jail.
