Several communities across the Indianapolis area are joining forces with thousands of cities nationwide for the “30th Anniversary of National Night Out” (NNO) crimes and drug prevention event.

National Night Out is designated to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Additionally, the event showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer nation.

To kick off the event, Mayor Ballard is hosting an award ceremony to recognize community groups and individuals for their efforts in the fight against crime. The ceremony is being held at Martin University’s Gathertorium at noon on Tuesday.

Additionally, Fox 59 has information on several communities’ National Night Out events in the area. The NNO event in Carmel will take place at the Carmel Gazebo from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m..
