DANVILLE – The Danville Police Department no longer has a police chief.

Town Manager Gary Eakin confirmed to Fox 59 that Chief Keith Gill has been terminated. It happened during a meeting Tuesday morning. Gill, who oversaw the department of about 20 officers, was given the option to resign but elected not to do so. Town officials met Monday night  to discuss Gill’s future and ultimately decided to let him go.

The reason behind Gill’s firing is unclear; Eakin said it was a “personnel matter” and declined to discuss it any further.

The Board of Metropolitan Police Commissioners will meet to pick an interim chief and set about finding a replacement for Gill. The board is expected to meet Friday.
