Anonymous tip leads IMPD to dead body in vacant house

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a death after a body was found in an east side home Sunday night.

Officers were dispatched to the house in the 2000 block of New York Street around 10:28 p.m. after receiving an anonymous call that there was a dead body inside. When officers arrived, they reported locating an “obviously deceased” body through the window of the vacant house.

IMPD homicide detectives arrived on scene and obtained a search warrant for the home. Detectives determined the decomposing body had been in the home for quite some time.

Officers on the scene said it appeared the deceased person was male. The cause of death is still unknown.

The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency will process the crime scene, and it is an ongoing investigation.
