SCOTTSBURG – Indiana State Police arrested two people accused of leaving a child locked inside a car.

Troopers had arrived at the Jay C Food Store in Scottsburg Sunday night to serve an arrest warrant when a woman flagged them down to report that a child had been left alone in a car. The troopers found the child buckled into a car seat inside a white 2001 Mitsubishi, and then went into the store to find the parents.

Police tracked down Clayton Koch, 25, and Ashley Davis, 22, who told them that the child was sleeping when they’d arrived to go shopping. They told state troopers the child had been inside the car for about 20 minutes.

Both were taken to the Scott County Jail on charges of neglect of a dependent. The child was placed in the care of the Division of Family and Children in Scott County.
