Martinsville’s police chief has retired after 15 months of service.

Darrell Davis’ retirement was effective at the end of the day Wednesday.

After taking over as chief, Davis formed a drug task force with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.

The mayor praised Davis for his work in getting drugs off the street and putting dealers behind bars.

Assistant Chief Robert Townsend will now serve as acting chief of the department.
