A Fishers boy who asked for donations instead of birthday presents delivered quite a haul to Gleaner’s Food Bank Friday afternoon.  Nathan Dimmitt said all he wanted for his eighth birthday was to help people in need.

He told his parents he had too many toys and wanted canned goods instead.

When word of his story spread, his mom, Amanda Dimmitt was surprised by the amount of support he recieved, “We weren’t expecting as much as what he’s gotten, and it’s been an amazing experience. Just the amount of monetary donations and food donations has been overwhelming for us.”

Nathan collected more than 1100 lbs of food for Gleaner’s.

“Just to think that one little person could make that big of a difference has inspired a lot of people and it’s just heartwarming to know that it was my son,” Nathan’s mom said.
