Detectives believe they will soon arrest the driver who hit two Kokomo teenagers and then drove away from the scene.

Christian Reede, 13, was killed as a result.

“I have no doubt he was an angel on this earth,” said Diane Robert, Reede’s great aunt.

Reede’s friend, Donte Brown, survived. Brown is also 13. Both of them were on a moped when they were hit outside the Highland Springs Subdivision near 300 South and Highland Springs Drive in Kokomo.

Brown is at home, recovering from his injuries.

“Even though we lost Christian, we’re glad that Donte was able to survive and he’ll move on with his life,” said Diane Roberts.

Authorities said they have someone who is a person of interest. Detectives would not ellaborate on their investigation.

This weekend, investigators recovered a grey 2006 Ford Escape, which they believe is the car involved in the accident.

The families of Reede and Brown hope an arrest will be made soon. Both families have been thankful for the outpouring of support.

“We’ve been praying for them because I’m sure it was an accident. We can’t just figure out why they ran and so it would just give us some peace,” said Jessica Roberts, Reede’s second cousin.
