Cyclists had another reason to ride as they gathered for the third annual Warriors on Wheels bike ride. The ride honors fallen police officers and it comes just days after the funeral of IMPD Officer Rod Bradway.
Warriors on Wheels is put on by the David S. Moore Foundation. Moore, and IMPD officer, was killed in January 2011. His family puts on the ride to honor his memory and the memory of other fallen officers.
Participants stopped at Crown Hill Cemetery to visit the Heroes of Public Safety Section. It was an emotional stop because Officers Moore and Bradway are buried there. Then they traveled to McCord Park to honor Indianapolis Police Officer William Whitfield, the first African-American officer killed in the line of duty. A final stop at the State Public Safety Memorial was added in light of Officer Bradway’s death.
The route was designed to showcase the city these officers work so hard to protect.
“That’s part of the legacy of these officers, they worked and died for this city,” said Spencer Moore, father of Officer David Moore.
Mayor Greg Ballard and Public Safety Director Troy Riggs stopped by the event.
