Vigo County Sheriff Deputies were called to the intersection of Oakbrook and Saginaw in southern Vigo County after a five-year-old child was injured in a golf cart accident.

Rescue crews found the girl with head injuries.

Sheriff’s Deputies learned that the five-year-old had been a passenger on a golf cart which was operated by her eleven-year-old sister. No adults were present at the time of the mishap.

The investigation revealed that the children had been driving the golf cart around the neighborhood, and had driven through a pothole in the roadway to splash water.

As the golf cart approached the water, the five-year-old suddenly stood up and when the cart hit the pothole, the girl fell and was struck by the golf cart.

The eleven-year-old immediately ran home for help.

The five-year-old  was transported to a local hospital by ambulance and then airlifted by Lifeline helicopter to Riley Children’s Hospital with serious head injuries.

Although no charges have been filed at this time, the Department of Child Protective Services was called as a matter of standard procedures.
