A homeowner fired shots during a home invasion on the northeast side Tuesday morning, police say.

Around 10:30 a.m., two people entered the home in the 8700 block of Green Branch Lane in the Fishers/Geist area. The homeowner was inside and fired shots as they tried to get away; investigators said the homeowner and his wife are both former law enforcement officers. Three rounds were fired, police said. After the gunshots, the suspects ran off, leaving their car with a door open.

Police took two people–a minor and a man in his mid-20s–into custody around noon, IMPD said. A neighbor saw them in a backyard and called 911. One of them was bitten by a K-9 officer.

Teddy Bear Daycare in Fishers was placed on lockdown as a precaution due to the search for suspects. The lockdown has since been lifted.

IMPD, Fishers police and Lawrence police were involved in the investigation.
