INDIANAPOLIS – A romantic rendezvous arranged on the internet instead ended with a man being shot early Tuesday morning.

According to a report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, a 34-year-old Indianapolis man arranged a meeting in an online chat room called “Chocolate City” with a woman named “Desire.”

They agreed to meet in the 500 block of Tecumseh Street around 1 a.m., where the woman said she’d be waiting next to a gray car. The man pulled his vehicle up to a car matching that description and honked his horn.

But the man didn’t find “Desire.” Instead, a man in a gray hooded sweatshirt opened the victim’s driver’s side door; another man opened the passenger side door. The man to his left “grabbed his face and told him to get out of the car,” the report said.

The victim heard a gunshot to his right, gunned his accelerator and sped off. He drove himself to IU Health Methodist Hospital after suffering a single gunshot to his right arm.
