INDIANAPOLIS – Preparations for a holiday tradition are already underway.

Retired IBEW Union electricians tested the nearly 4,800 multicolored lights that will go on Monument Circle for the Circle of Lights. The bulbs are tested at the Indiana State Fairgrounds before being set up downtown.

The crews checked each bulb and wire, replacing sockets and fuses as needed.

“Putting them up is fine just like at home. Taking them down is not as much fun because usually it’s colder. But we enjoy it,” said John Payne, one of the electricians.

The lights will go up on Monument Circle on Saturday, Nov. 9. About 200 union volunteers will help make it happen.

The lights will be turned on Friday, Nov. 29, at the Circle of Lights event.
