A teenager convicted of raping a student at Muncie Central High School has been ordered to pay the victim $750,000.

A Delaware County judge made that ruling last week on a civil suit filed in the case. The girl was sexually assaulted by a classmate in 2010.

The case led to the firing of Muncie Central Principal Chris Smith, who was accused of failing to immediately report the rape allegation to police. Smith was found guilty of child abuse, but an appeals court later overturned that ruling. The case is now headed to the Indiana Supreme Court.
