INDIANAPOLIS – Football fans in Central Indiana are gearing up and getting ready for Sunday’s showdown between the Colts and the Broncos and Peyton Manning’s return to Lucas Oil Stadium.
Fans were buzzing inside the Colts Pro shop at the stadium.
Brad Chandler spent his Friday afternoon looking for a Colts jersey for his wife Stephanie. He said it’s a little birthday surprise for her to wear during the big game.
“They’re trying to find a size for me that hopefully will fit her,” he said as he waited for a store assistant.
A few feet away, Brian Rowe picked up the only shirt with a Bronco’s logo on it.
“I’m a Broncos fan,” said the smiling Denver native. “I’m thinking it’ll be about a seven point game. I’m pulling for Denver to pull this off, maybe 35-28 or something like that.”
Not if Colts fans have anything to do about it. Those who bleed blue promise to make sure everyone knows whose house this really is.
“I’m very happy for Peyton, myself. I wish him all the success, except when he plays us,” laughed Chandler.
Earlier in the day, the City showed its pride by dying the downtown canal blue. Mayor Greg Ballard joined the Colts mascot Blue and former center Jeff Saturday at the canal for the ceremonial ‘blue-ing’ of the water. Saturday told Fox 59 about his mixed emotions when it came to seeing his good friend and former teammate wearing a different jersey at Lucas Oil stadium.
“A guy who’s been this important to this community and this organization as a whole it’s amazing to have him come back. I think everybody wants the best for Peyton. I think he did it the right way,” he said.
