VIGO COUNTY, Ind — Update: Indiana State Police and the Vigo County Coroner’s Office have positively identified the deceased male found under a private road bridge in northwestern Vigo County on October 19, 2013. Fingerprint comparisons at the Indiana State Police laboratory confirmed the identification of Nevelland A. Thompson Jr., age 76, of Terre Haute, IN.

Family members had reported Mr. Thompson missing to the Terre Haute Police Department on October 12, 2013 with Thompson reportedly last seen on the 10th of October. The investigation into the cause and manner of his death continues. However, there is no evidence to suggest a third party suspect. His family has been notified.

The female has yet to be identified and there is no immediate estimate of time on her identification, but investigators and the coroner’s office are working hard to do so. Possibly up to one month if DNA has to be utilized.

The cause of death for the female was strangulation with the manner of death listed as homicide. The cause of death for the male is pending with the manner of death pending as well. Toxicology results are pending on both and could take two to four weeks.

At this time, ISP investigators have no evidence to suggest that anyone other than the deceased male caused the death of the female and investigators believe there is no danger to the public from an outside suspect. However, the investigation is ongoing.
