The FFN Wrap: Favorites cruise to victories in playoff openers

INDIANAPOLIS – The first week of Sectional play in the IHSAA State Football Tournament came and went without many jaw-dropping results.

A majority of the teams that came into games as favorites left with decisive victories to remain in the hunt for a championship in one of the six classes.

In Class 6A Ben Davis, Pike and Center Grove were untouched in their their Sectional openers at home Friday night. The Giants cruised to a 35-14 win over Avon in Sectional 5 and will face Pike in the final after they beat Brownsburg 57-7.

The Trojans, meanwhile, ran away from New Albany in a 70-14 victory.

New Palestine continued their undefeated ways in Class 4A as they went on the road and beat Pendleton Heights 62-40. Roncalli was also successful in their opener at Mooresville as they jumped out to a 42-0 first half lead en route to a 48-6 win over the Pioneers while Chatard won their first 4A playoff game in school history with a 48-7 defeat of Northview.
