LEBANON – A woman died following a crash in Lebanon Monday afternoon.

According to Boone County Sheriff Ken Campbell, the accident happened just before 4 p.m. at State Road 39 between County Road 250 South and County Road 450 South. The area was closed following the crash.

On Tuesday, police identified the victim as 23-year-old Bailey Speer. Campbell said her pickup truck drifted into the wrong lane and hit a Kinetico work truck head-on. Speer died on impact.

Her 2-year-old son was riding in the front seat, but Campbell said the child was not properly restrained in the car seat. The boy was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health with possible internal injuries. Police said his injuries would have been less severe if the car seat had been properly restrained.

The driver of the work truck went to IU Health Methodist Hospital with serious injuries that included broken legs.

The Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was called to the scene, but investigators said there’s no indication alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
