Severe storms erupted Sunday just before noon in Illinois then raced into Central Indiana bringing several tornadoes along with powerful wind gusts. While damage will be better assessed early Monday morning, here is some preliminary information. Through 9 PM nationwide 80 tornadoes have been reported mainly in Illinois and Indiana. Several homes and buildings were destroyed while five fatalities were reported in Illinois.
There have been 358 wind reports of 40 hail reports – with a total of 478 reports at the time of this blog post.
There looks to have been several long-lived (super cell) thunderstorms with at least 4 major tornado tracks.
10 central Indiana counties reported tornadoes, 3 counties reported funnels with a total of 64 severe weather reports.

The national weather service is sending three teams out Monday to survey damage and determine tornado track and rating. With several locations to cover a full report will be a few days away. Preliminary reports from the survey team should be available by Monday afternoon.
