INDIANAPOLIS – The IHSAA basketball season is still early and far removed from the championship round come March.

But a few favorites to reach Bankers Life Fieldhouse for a few of those championships are already making a case for why they will be a factor in “March Madness.”

Defending Class 4A champion Carmel is one of them as they’ve started the season 2-0 with a pair of double-digit victories. On Friday they made their home opener an easy one in front of an enthusiastic crowd against rival Noblesville, as Scott Heady’s team beat the Millers 51-33.

Not far away in Noblesville, Guerin Catholic made a statement on a snowy night in a match-up of top ten teams in Class 3a. Pete Smith’s third-ranked Eagles hosted No. 10 Hamilton Heights and defended the homecourt well in a 59-49 victory on Friday night.
